During the September 11 attacks of 2001, 2,977 people died, and more than 6,000 others were injured. 2,726 death in the World Trade Center and in the surrounding area. (2,103 [77%] were male and 623 [23%] were female).
We’ve divided this mission into four sections:
Week 1: New York, NY - Flight 11 (87 onboard) hit the North Tower at 8:46AM (EST) and Flight 175 (60 onboard) hit the South Tower at 9:03AM (EST), resulting in 2,726 deaths.
Week 2: Arlington, VA - Flight 77 (59 onboard) hit the western side of the Pentagon (just 2 miles from the White House) at 9:37AM (EST) resulting in 184 deaths.
Week 3: Somerset County, PA - Flight 93 (40 onboard) crashed in a field at 10:03AM (EST) resulting in 40 deaths.
Week 4: Over 6,000 reported injured with countless continual consequences of injuries and illnesses related to the attacks, including PTSD and other mental illnesses.
Emergency workers killed in the September 11 attacks: Among those killed in the September 11 attacks, 412 were emergency workers in New York City who responded to the World Trade Center. This included:
343 firefighters (including a chaplain and two paramedics) of the New York City Fire Department (FDNY)
37 police officers of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department (PAPD)
23 police officers of the New York City Police Department (NYPD)
8 emergency medical technicians and paramedics from private emergency medical services 1 patrolman from the New York Fire Patrol
